Research:

Dr. Young takes both observational and data analytical approaches to the study of atmospheric flows on scales ranging from 20 m to 2000 km, the micro- and mesoscale. His emphasis has been on buoyancy and terrain driven flows including fronts, thunderstorms, buoyancy waves, density currents and boundary layer convection. He has applied machine learning to numerous problems associated with atmospheric flow detection and prediction as well as atmospheric chemistry and renewable energy. He is particularly interested in the quantification and prediction of uncertainty.
