About:

Alex Rattner is the principal investigator of the Multiscale Thermal Fluids and Energy Laboratory at Penn State. A major research thrust of MTFE is to develop enabling power generation and thermal management systems for extreme space and planetary environments. Active projects include development of a lithium combustion based power generation system for Venus surface missions, hydrolysis-based heating and power generation systems for scientific mission survival and operation through the cold lunar night, and high efficiency Stirling engine based power plants for lunar payloads. Rattner is also a technical advisor for the Penn State student-led Lunar Lions and LionTech rocketry teams.
